[ Upcoming Exhibition : 코끼리 성, Elephant Castle​ ]

〈코끼리 성, Elephant Castle〉은 런던 예술 대학교 (University of the Arts London) 런던 컬리지 오브 커뮤니케이션 (London College of Communication) 졸업생들이 서울에서 선보이는 그룹 전시입니다. 

본 전시는 디자인을 단순한 시각적 결과물이 아닌, 동시대 사회를 관찰하고 질문하며 해석하는 하나의 언어로 바라보는 데서 출발합니다. 참여 작가들은 연구와 실험, 질문과 반복의 과정을 통해 각자의 작업을 전개하며, 사회적 관계와 구조를 다양한 방식으로 탐구합니다. 

‘Elephant Castle’ 즉 ‘코끼리 성’은 학교가 자리한 런던 남부의 Elephant & Castle에서 출발합니다. 이곳에서 시작된 생각과 작업은 매체에 구애받지 않는 다양한 형상(象)이 되어 전시 안에 겹치고 쌓이며 하나의 구조, 즉 ‘성(城)’을 형성합니다. 

다양한 문화와 삶의 경험이 축적된 이 장소에서 출발한 생각과 작업은 서울이라는 새로운 맥락 안에서 다시 해석되며, 또 다른 관계와 관점을 만들어내고자 합니다.

〈Elephant Castle, 코끼리 성〉 is a group exhibition by graduates of London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, presented in Seoul. 

The exhibition begins from an understanding of design not merely as a visual outcome, but as a language through which to observe, question and interpret contemporary society. Through processes of research, experimentation, questioning and iteration, 

the participating artists develop their individual practices while exploring social relationships and structures in diverse ways.

The title, ‘Elephant Castle’, takes its name from Elephant & Castle, the area in South London where the college is located. Ideas and practices that began in this place take shape in various forms(象), coming together within the exhibition to form a collective structure — a castle(城). 

Reinterpreted within the new context of Seoul, these works seek to create new relationships and perspectives.
